How do I setup System Manager in HubManager Pro?

System Manager is a feature of HubManager Pro versions 6 and above and fulfills the following needs:

A single operator manages one system but wants the database to be located on a drive other than drive c: or on a network volume.

A single operator manages many systems, each one with distinct doors, users and access needs.  For example, a building management company handling the access needs for different tenants.

Many operators managing one system, each operator has access to the database but may be limited in what capabilities they have.

  • When used in conjunction with the SEG or modem, each operator can update the controller if they have been granted that capability.
  • If used with the direct PC connection (RS-232 or RS-485), the connected computer will be the only one capable of interacting with the controller itself.

Many operators managing multiple systems:

Each operator may have access to some systems but not access to others. For example, a building management company may have access to each tenant's system. Each tenant will only have access to the system assigned to them. The building management company, which manages the cleaning staff, may add or delete cleaning personnel, giving them access to each tenant’s office. Each tenant may add or delete employees for their company only.

When used in conjunction with an SEG or modem, each operator can update the controller if they have been granted that capability.

If used with the direct PC connection (RS-232 or RS-485), the connected computer will be the only one capable of interacting with the controller itself.

If you do not need to use System Manager it is not necessary to turn it on.

Terms:

System Manager - The part of the HubManager Pro program that is responsible for accessing the System Repository and loading the System Dataset contained in the repository onto the local PC.  System Manager also handles sending the data back to the System Repository.

System Repository – A folder where System Datasets are stored when not opened by the System Manager.

System Dataset – A compressed version of the information contained in the Database folder.  The Database folder is where the information is stored in HubManager Pro when System Manager is not turned on.

Operator – A person with a login name and password that is able to sign into the HubManager program.  An operator can be restricted as to what functions they can perform in the HubManager program.

To use System Manager, perform the following actions in the HubManager Program:

  1. Install the same version of HubManager Pro on every computer that will be used to access the common database.
  2. Set up your site, doors, access levels, time zones and users on HubManager and export the information to your door controllers.
  3. Back up your Database.  The backup function can be found under the Tools menu in HubManager Pro.
  4. Go to the Tools menu and choose Options from the list.
  5. Select the System Manager tab.
  6. Select - Enable System Manager.
  7. Select - Auto close any currently open system when this program closes.
  8. Select - Automatically return control after a system is opened.

  15. Click on the System menu and exit the HubManager program.

Perform the following actions on your PC.

Prepare or have prepared, the common location for your System Repository.  This has to be a shared drive, not a Windows Share.  Operators that will be using the System Repository will need to have read and write access to this location.

Open Windows Explorer either through the Start Menu or by double clicking on the My Computer or My Documents icon.

Navigate to the location of the Systems folder of the version of the HubManager program you have installed.  The folder will be located in either:

C:\Program Files\IEI\HubManagerPro6\Program

C:\Program Files\IEI\HubManagerPro7\Program

C:\Program Files\IEI\HMP8

Right click on the folder named Systems and choose Copy from the popup menu.

Navigate to the network drive where you will be placing the Systems folder you have copied.  An example of that share or volume could be:

Z:\foldername

Right click in that location and choose Paste from the popup menu, and the Systems folder you copied will be placed into that location.

You directory will now show:

Z:\foldername\Systems

Write down your network path for future reference.

Perform the following actions in the HubManager Pro program on any additional computers that will need to access the Repository.

  1. Start the HubManager Pro program.

  7. Click on the Locate  / Import Repository link.
  8. When the window opens, click on the Browse button.
  9. When the Browse folder window opens, navigate to the location of the System Repository you wrote down in the previous step 7.  In the example given, the location is Z:\foldername\Systems.
  10. Click on the folder Systems and then click OK.
  11. On the Locate/Import Existing System Repository window click OK.
  12. You have now added the shared System Repository to System Manager and you can now open the system to manage your users.
  13. After the System opens, click OK on the dialog box that confirms your System has been opened.
  14. At this point, in order to avoid confusion, you can delete the default "System" located in drive C:\
