How do I configure my SEG-1 or my SEG-M to use a static IP address or to configure it as a Dynamic (DHCP) type device?

Requirements:

  1. SEG-M or SEG-1
  2. SEG-M is powered by the Max2 or Max3 panel
  3. SEG-1 requires 12VDC power supply
  4. Gateway Config Adapter (P/N 207-6000)
  5. IEI supplied, tan Phone Type Cord.
  6. Unused Com Port
  7. For PCs without a built in or free Com Port, a USB to RS-232 convertor can be purchased at most computer retailers.  The Radio Shack Model 26-949 has been tested and performs well.  Install any drivers required for the USB to RS-232 converter according to manufacturer's instructions.
  8. For a static IP address, the IP address is assigned by the network administrator.
  9. If you are using Windows Vista, you will need to download and install a 3rd party terminal emulation program such as PuTTY which is available here http://www.putty.org.
Preparation:

  1. Plug the Gateway Config Adapter into the Com Port on your PC and take note of the Com Port number that you are connecting the adapter to.  A built in Com Port is usually Com Port 1 or 2.  If you are using a 3rd party USB to RS-232 adapter, check the Windows Device Manager for the Com Port number.
  2. Plug the IEI supplied tan, Phone Type Cord into the Gateway Config Adapter.
  3. Plug the other end of the Phone Type Cord into one of the following locations depending on the model SEG you have:
  4. SEG-1   RJ-11 connector on the front of the unit labeled RS232 ,
  5. SEG-M  Into the RJ-11C connector on the backplane of the Max2/MiniMax2 or Max3/MiniMax3 panel.
  6. Connect the SEG-M to the backplane of the Max3 or Max2 panel at the SEG-M Connector (S1) just above the first Door Control Module or:
  7. Plug the SEG-M into the backplane of the MiniMax2 or MiniMax3 at the (J2) connector near the On/Off switch on the left hand side of the backplane or:
  8. Connect the 12VDC power supply to the SEG-1 using connector TS-2.  Pin 2 is negative, Pin 3 is positive.  Plug the power supply into a power strip with an on/off switch.
  9. Install HubManager Pro if not installed.

If you have HubManager Pro 7, skip to scenario 1
If you have Hubmanager Pro 8, skip to scenario 2

Scenario 1 – HubManager Pro7 or HubManager Pro8 with Windows XP

In HubManager Pro, create a site with the following selections.

Name                            Site name of your choosing
Device Group               Type of device you are connecting to
Connection Type          TCP-IP

Click on the TCP/IP Parameters tab.
Click OK on the dialog box that recommends that you search for SEG.
Remove power to the SEG
For a Max2/Max3 with a SEG-M, turn off the Module1 power switch.
For a MiniMax2/MiniMax3 with a SEG-M, turn off the power switch at location SW-1 on the backplane.
For a SEG-1 turn off the power strip you plugged the power supply into.

If you have HubManager Pro 7
Click on the button at the bottom of the TCP/IP Parameters tab labeled Launch SEG Serial Port Setup Utility.  Skip to step 7.

If you have HubManager Pro 8
  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the HMP8 folder on your hard disk.  The path will be C:\Program Files\IEI\HMP8
  2. Find the file named Gateway_Config_X.ht where X equals the Com Port your Gateway Config Adapter is plugged into and double click on that file.  Skip to step 9.
  3. A Dialog box will open asking you to specify the Com Port number you connected the Gateway Config Adapter to.
  4. Click OK, if you are connected to Com Port 1.  If you are connected to any port other that Com Port 1, type that port number into this box and then click OK.
  5. The HyperTerminal program will open and be the topmost window on your screen.
Connecting to the SEG
